Mitchell Lieber - Producer-Director

Mitchell Lieber is producer-director of FansSpeak and also of Rumbula's Echo, the ground-breaking Luminescence Media Group NFP Holocaust documentary in post-production. He is producer-director of the documentary short Renewal on Peitavas and directed and producer-director-camera for the documentary shorts Beneath the Sand and Seventy Years.

Lieber began working in broadcasting and journalism as a teen in the 1970's, serving as a news stringer for WGLD-FM (now WVAZ-FM) Oak-Park-Chicago and co-host/engineer for the nightly program Radio Free Chicago on Chicago's WEAW-FM (now WOJO-FM) and WNIB-FM (now WDRV-FM). Lieber's This Is A Test on WNIB-FM was acclaimed by critic Ray Townley as "the most culturally satisfying program on the air" in Chicago. Mitchell Lieber went on to serve as WNIB-FM's public affairs director, hosting a regular interview program and creating innovative documentaries. Among these was That Moon Rocket Busted That Cloud, a vox populi documentary about people's thoughts about snow, recorded during the 1979 snowstorm that swept Jane Byrne into office as Chicago's first woman mayor.

On the business side Lieber guided his employer, WNIB-FM, to a major FCC power increase, substantially increasing the radio station's coverage and value (it sold in 2001 for $165 million). He co-founded the Chicago Area Broadcast Public Affairs Association (CABPAA) and the public radio group the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB), which he served as treasurer. Mitchell Lieber was also marketing manager at Chicago's WFMT-FM.

Mitchell Lieber has had a parallel career in marketing and marketing management consulting, and served as Chair of the Board of Governors of the DMA's International ECHO Awards, which recognize the most creative and effective TV, search, web and mail advertising campaigns in the world.

For more than twenty-five years Lieber served as a director and officer of Voqal-Chicago (formerly CITF) and of its educational TV station that broadcast to Chicago area schools via "wireless cable" from the AON Center.
